Sand County Real Estate Includes Century 21 Resources

If you are interested in purchasing a home or get-away cabin or land for sale in northwestern Wisconsin, you can choose a beautiful and unspoiled environment in Burnett County, created in 1856. The U.S. Census Bureau states that the county has 872 square miles of land and 58 square miles of water including the amazing number of 509 lakes that are comprised of 31,258 acres of clear blue water.

A Bit of History

Burnett County WI real estate is located in the midst of what is still home to some Native American families from the Woodland Dakota and Ojibwa Indian tribes. That culture dates back over 8,000 years. The first white explorers were Jesuit missionaries and French trappers who didn’t come to the area from Lake Superior until about 1660. Grantsburg became the county seat because it was the trade center. By 1884 a railway was established, and by 1886 the town flourished and had stores, a courthouse, hotels, a school, churches, and a starch factory.

Saint Croix National Scenic Riverway

Situated within portions of eight Wisconsin counties, this Riverway was among the eight original National Wild and Scenic Rivers. It is a riverways system in northwestern Wisconsin and eastern Minnesota that federally protects the 252 miles of rivers together with the land adjacent to the rivers.

The upper St. Croix is a well-known small-mouth bass fishery, and the river also has sturgeon, walleye, catfish, muskellunge, and northern pike, all of which makes it popular with fishermen. The riverway is also a destination for camping at dozens of sites designated by the National Park Service, tubing, canoeing, boating, hunting, and other year-round recreational opportunities. There are also hundreds of miles of hiking trails, which, in winter, are used for cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, snowmobiling, and ice fishing.

Fort Folle Avione Historical Park

If you like local history, visit this park. In 1969, remains were found of two trading posts which had operated from 1802 to 1804 along the Yellow River. The historical park was developed around those two posts by the Burnett County Historical Society.
